So, for an exparament on Hooks law, I built a bridge out of legos and put heavy stuff on it. It held up to 20 lbs (89 Newtons).
With 89N of force, the center of the bridge was displaced 4 mm, so using hooks law we can find the spring constant (K) of the bridge:
F=-KX
89N = -K ∙ -4 → 89N / -4 = -K → K = 22.25N
Unfortunatly, during the span of the experament, a truck hit the bridge.
the underlining support was damaged, and the bridge would no longer hold any weight. Notice though, how the structure falls apart once the elastic limit of the legos is reached.
I LOVE that you use kid's toys to do your homework. Hilarious!
